“To meditate persistently on impermanence is to be guided by all the Buddhas.”
There is uncertainty at the heart of human beings, an anxiety that leads us down wrong paths of disappointment and dissatisfaction. This uncertainty is our perception of the pervasive impermanence of the apparent world.
Buddha taught that understanding the truth of impermanence is the most valuable teaching. Although we conduct ourselves as if we will live forever, temporarily cloaked in comforting ignorance, it is only by contemplating and penetrating deeply into the fact of impermanence that we begin to see things as they are. Through this insight, our frantic clinging and manipulations cease and the mind is prepared to realize one’s true nature.
“Impermanence” is one of the Four Thoughts That Turn the Mind towards Truth. Khenpo will present an overview of the subject which will prepare students for deeper study and meditation.
Fearing death, I went to the mountains.
Over and over again I meditated on death’s unpredictable coming,
And took a stronghold of the deathless, unchanging nature.
Now I have lost and gone beyond all fear of dying!
No charge, but donations are encouraged. Open to all.
Sundays, December 3, 10, & 17, 10:00-10:45 AM
followed by tea break and meditation

Sadly, we are reminded daily that life in our modern world is cheap. But, what IS the value of human life?
Buddha taught that human life is the most advantageous platform by which to obtain freedom and omniscience.
A human life is rare and precious.
It is precious when it presents the opportunity to attain liberation from suffering. Having a precious human body, one has the chance each moment to practice virtue, the means towards attaining enlightenment. The possibilities are boundless. But, one must first recognize this form, realize its great value and rarity, then use it accordingly to benefit oneself and others.
What are these precious qualities? How do we recognize, strengthen and use them?
No charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Open to all.
