White Tara Practice

May 22nd, 7:00 pm

Visualization and mantra recitation of White Tara. The practice of Tara frees us from fear and gives us courage to face the obstacles that arise in our daily life and in our practice of Buddha Dharma. The practice of White Tara in particular extends our life and those for whom we pray.

WL Zen meditation

May 23rd, 7:00 pm

Long time Zen student and Rochester resident Rafe Martin is in the process of being sanctioned by his teacher, Danan Henry Roshi, to teach in the lay Zen Buddhist tradition of the Diamond Sangha. As an addition to our regular schedule, White Lotus is happy to have Rafe lead periods of Zen meditation (zazen) on Wednesday evenings, as well as hold sittings and give Dharma talks and discussion on Saturday mornings. Rafe’s intention to provide Zen teaching and guidance in practice in an atmosphere that is lay and non-institutional mirrors White Lotus’s efforts to establish the Buddha-Dharma in America. Interestingly, this arrangement is reminiscent of Buddhist temples in China where one could find teachers of different traditions within a single complex. Thus, there would be Cha’n, Pureland, Huayan, and T’ien-t’ai teachings side by side. White Lotus members and others interested in these sessions will find a welcoming environment. Open to all.

White Lotus Buddhist Center is dedicated to the transmission of Buddha's teachings and realization to America and is committed to the support of those who seek to walk the Path together. This effort involves individuals gaining the confidence to commit to ongoing study, critical analysis - pounding the teachings as gold would be hammered in ancient India to prove its purity - and applying the teachings to the training of the mind. We practice in the tradition of the Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibet.

Our center, located in Rochester, New York offers weekly lectures on Tibetan Buddhism and meditation practice in a warm and friendly environment. The highlights of each year are programs by visiting Tibetan Lamas who teach on Buddhism, lead meditation retreats, and meet one on one with interested practitioners.

White Lotus Buddhist Center is dedicated to the preservation of Tibetan culture as an invaluable resource for Americans. As such, we provide speakers to school groups and others interested in learning about Himalayan cultures and/or Buddhism.

We invite you to visit. Sunday mornings are a good place to start. Everyone is welcome! We are currently meeting at 815 Park Ave, Rochester, NY (on the 2nd floor of Immanuel Baptist Church. Use the Park Ave entrance.
