White Lotus is pleased to announce a program on Tibetan Medicine with Menpa Kunchog.
Tibet holds a vast and flourishing science of herbal and naturopathic medicine which includes healing modalities such as meditation, mantra, and so forth. To understand Tibetan medicine requires extensive training, education and practice with experienced doctors.
Originally from the Amdo region of Tibet, Menpa Kunchog studied the classical medical tantras with several well-known doctors and eventually earned an MA in Tibetan Medicine at Qinhai Medical College (China). In addition, he completed multiple shorter apprenticeships with other esteemed practitioners of Tibetan medicine.
When he came to the United States, Dr. Kunchog continued supplementing his extensive training with studies in acupuncture and other disciplines at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, graduating in April 2019. He now sees patients at his own clinic in Manhattan where he lives with his wife and two children.
A devoted Buddhist practitioner, Dr. Kunchog also teaches Tibetan language at Columbia University in New York as well as tending to his physician responsibilities.
He is an old friend of White Lotus Buddhist Center, having become part of our sangha while a student at RIT. He taught here previously and we are delighted to have him return for this program. For more details on his background go to: http://www.menpakunchog.com/about/. You can also visit his FB page: Guna Natha Tibetan Medicine.
The program will consist of a film and discussion on Tibetan medicine, lectures and demonstrations of some self-healing skills and a Medicine Buddha practice. In addition, Dr. Kunchog will be available for medical consults. Consults will consist of urine analysis, pulse reading, and questioning of the patient. Detailed information will be sent to those who request appointments with the doctor.
